The History and Future of the Hope Sports Complex

May 18, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

153b257Julie Mullin, President and CEO, Mid Michigan Sports Turf, LLC Facilities Manager, Hope Sports Complex and Owner of Chill SBC Soccer Club. She will speak on the history and future of Hope Sports Complex, a 14-acre site with nine natural grass fields and one turf field with lights. Also, Hope Sports Complex is now the home of the Capital City Stealth, Lansing’s Semi-Pro Football Team.

I currently reside with my husband, Kevin, in East Lansing, MI. I spend my time balanced between the construction projects, sporting events at Hope Sports Complex and soccer seasons at Chill SBC Soccer Club. I have had a wide variety of exciting careers over the last thirty years but seemed to have landed in the most exciting situation to date.

The story begins ten years ago when my third son started playing soccer. The love of soccer turned into a hobby of owning his small soccer club. This hobby grew into a full time position of managing over 600 players and 40+ travel teams. This growth created the need for large field space required for soccer training and games, hence the need to create a management company. This management company signed a lease with the City of Lansing to manage Hope Sports Complex.

Sports tourism can have a strong impact on a city. By creating a multiple sports complex/tournament destination in South Lansing, the local sports community and tournament participants will benefit. The economic benefits of having this type of facility available could be very impactful to our area. The goal is to create the region’s top-rated sporting event facility and attract thousands of annual visitors to the complex. An additional end-product to this project is to create an after school program for local at-risk children by providing a meal, some physical activity and mentoring.

I am reaching out to community leaders and business owners who might be like-minded and joining me in seeing this project come to fruition.
